Universities have been evolving in order to play a prominent role in innovation and economic development in a knowledge based economy. Previous studies reveal university Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs) need a wide range of capabilities to support commercialization of academic research, including capabilities to protect Intellectual Property (IP), to perform technical and commercial assessment of IP, to market academic invention to potential licensees and investors, to handle contract negotiation, and to developed new business. The development of these abilities is not easy; for instance the skills required for commercialization activities are difficult to find in a small group of people and are expense to buy in (Weckowska, 2013).
