It has only been seven years since Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai (1) the Taliban by writing an anonymous diary about life under its rule in north-west Pakistan. Since then she has been shot by the extremists, and has become the first teenage ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan. As a child, she became an advocate for girls' education, which resulted in the Taliban issuing a death threat against her. In 2012, a gunman shot her. Speaking ahead of the ceremony in Oslo, Norway the then 17-year-old girl said she hoped to pursue a career in politics after finishing her education in the UK, where she has lived.
