Vegetarianism: The Basic Facts

There are several types of vegetarians. Some eat dairy foods, others may choose to include eggs, while others abstain entirely from any food product that comes from an animal. One thing they all have in common, though, is they rely primarily on plant-based foods for their nutritional needs. The decision to adopt a meat-free diet can be a complex choice. People of all ages and backgrounds choose to be vegetarians and for a variety of reasons.
Types of Vegetarians
A lacto-ovo vegetarian consumes milk and other dairy products, eggs, grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and seeds. Whereas a lacto-vegetarian follows a similar eating pattern but does not eat eggs. Meanwhile, a vegan avoids all animal-based products. In addition to meat, this includes eggs, milk and dairy products. Some vegans also do not eat honey.
