CULTURA CIENTÍFICA

(1º§) Há muita ciência na mente de cada um de nós. Podemos não saber definir um gene ou não ter uma ideia exata do que é uma molécula ou a lei da gravidade, mas todos estamos incorporando muita parte da moderna genética, da química, da física. Olhando as estrelas, hoje, um camponês e um poeta imaginam um objeto que é muito mais parecido com o objeto descrito por um astrofísico do que com as estrelas imaginadas por Aristóteles.

(2º§) Mas essas imagens científicas nas nossas cabeças não são somente na forma de conceitos mais ou menos aproximativos de: dados, leis, fatos. São também na forma ambígua, contraditória e interessantíssima de: metáforas, símbolos, sonhos e medos estratificados. São, em uma palavra, cultura.

(3º§) E a cultura transita não somente pelos canais visíveis da divulgação e da educação escolar, mas também, antes e ainda mais, ao longo dos caminhos subterrâneos, enrolados, longínquos, da difusão cultural de mitos e símbolos. Os teóricos explicam tais afirmações cientificamente.

(4º§) Antes de identificar os símbolos, a criança já os admira, porque ela ouve historinhas sobre alguns dos referidos símbolos. Ela observa os seus arredores, ela interagem e assimila o que consegue na sua evolução.

(5º§) Antes de aprender a palavra e o conceito, uma criança pode intuir o que é o frio tomando um sorvete.

(6º§) Antes de ler um livro de texto ou uma revista, um cidadão constrói uma imagem da ciência e do cientista por meio das novelas, do cinema, da arte, da música.

(7º§) Estudar a cultura científica adentrando por esses caminhos e contradições, analisando o imaginário que o público agrega à informação científica além de suas falhas no conhecimento, é mais difícil. Assim também mais fascinante!

Elon Musk asked Tim Cook to make him CEO of

Apple, new book claims

(1º§) New York (CNN Business) As if Elon Musk isn't running enough companies, he once may have suggested taking over as CEO of America's most valuable business, Apple.

(2º§) Five years ago, in the midst of manufacturing delays and other issues plaguing Tesla's planned Model 3 launch, Musk is said to have had a phone call with Tim Cook during which the Apple (AAPL) CEO proposed buying Tesla. Musk said he'd do it, but on one condition: "I'm CEO." It reportedly took Cook a moment realize Musk meant taking his job.

(3º§) That's according to a Los Angeles Times review of "Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk and the Bet of the Century," a forthcoming book by Wall Street Journal reporter Tim Higgins, who covers Apple (AAPL), Tesla (TSLA) and other tech companies. The review, published Friday, adds that Cook reportedly responded to Musk with an expletive and hung up the phone.

(4º§) For their part, Musk and Cook have denied ever speaking to one another.

(5º§) In December, Musk revealed Twitter that he had considered selling Tesla to Apple but said he never actually talked with Cook. Replying to a report about Apple's plans to release a battery-powered, mass-market automobile, Musk said he reached out to Cook during the "darkest days of the Model 3 program" about acquiring Tesla "for 1/10 of our current value."

(6º§) "He refused to take the meeting," Musk said.

(7º§) Musk also denied that the interaction described in the book happened in a tweet on Friday, following the publication of the book review.

(8º§) "Cook & I have never spoken or written to each other ever," Musk said, adding that he had once requested a meeting with Cook to discuss Apple buying Tesla, but that it didn't happen and "there were no conditions of acquisition proposed whatsoever."

(9º§) Higgins, the author, responded to Musk's Friday tweet saying the Tesla founder was given "plenty of opportunities" to comment on the anecdote.

(10º§) "This anecdote comes from Musk's own account the conversation, according to people who heard the retelling at the time," Higgins tweeted.

(11º§) When asked about the book's claims, Apple directed CNN Business to an April interview Cook did with reporter Kara Swisher, who asked about Musk saying he refused a meeting. "You know," Cook responded, "I've never spoken to Elon, although I have great admiration and respect for the company he's built."

(12º§) Musk and Cook were photographed sitting near one another - with only Oracle (ORCL) CEO Safra Catz between them - in a meeting with former President Donald Trump in December 2016. It's unclear if the two spoke.
